NASO Concept 2

Nepal Dalit Info - Concept Logo

I was asked to come up with a design for a logo for Nepal Dalit Info, and organization looking to bring equality to all Nepalese. The genesis of this design came from an optical illusion, where you can see either a chalice or two faces, depending on whether you view the positive space or the negative space. I chose this image because the faces are identical. Their identical height and features is symbolic of equal opportunity and social status for Dalits and all members of society. All people are important within society; without these two faces, the chalice itself would disappear. The chalice also symbolizes the arts and crafts background that many Dalits have as part of their lineage.

The khukuri swords were an element taken from their previous logo. Their non-violent position (uncrossed) shows the organization's non-violent methods to bring about peace and equality. The moon image is from Nepal's flag. From this point, the water from the chalice flows toward the viewer. This is representative of the flow of information and truth. Water itself is needed by everyone regardless of race, gender, or societal status, for survival.

If I were to further refine this idea, it would have a more streamlined look. The water flow element distracts from the rest of the image; by giving the flow curved edges, as opposed to wavy ones, it would harmonize better with the chalice while keeping its symbolism. The outlines and coloration would also be revisited.
