It Only Makes Cents - Spray paint on masionite, plexiglas, coins, 2003Small thing: big difference is the general theme to this artwork. The penny is about 70 cm in diameter. One side is a carving that resembles the Canadian one cent coin. The other side is made of clear Plexiglas, and has a 11-sided border, like older pennies had. It is about 5cm thick and acts like a coin bank. The original concept was to get people to donate their coins to the bank. When it was full, the money would then be donated to a local charity. All the little donations (that most wouldn't even care about losing) would then make a large impact. I've taken something small that most people don't even notice and made it large and noteworthy. This art plays on those themes. |
