Penguins on a Quiet Beach - Plexiglas, ink, mayfair, 2001The year 2001 was one where I really fixated on penguins. This was the second piece of art that featured penguins in a tropical setting. I played with the triangular arrangement of the penguins in the foreground, which was common in renaissance-era art. The right side is framed by an up-close palm tree, with some hidden shapes found within. The sun's intensity was suggested by having the rays define the sun itself. The sepia-like colour of ink I chose was deliberate as well, to create a timeless tone to the portrait. |
